In their Oregon home, her parents heard the mind whispering. Astonished, Kaela questioned Azzori, “Did you hear Caeth’s voice?”

“Yes. Our daughter is in trouble but …”

“She is using the mind whispering. How is it possible? Caeth has never shown signs of mystical abilities.” Kaela shuddered, “I am afraid for her. During the centuries we have lived on this planet, mind whispering has become a lost skill.”

While Azzori threw clothes in a bag, Kaela answered her daughter. “Caeth, the creature is not a monster. It is Raessa’s spirit animal — a Savannah cat. We are coming. Do not fear what you see.”

Azzori grabbed the bags. “Caeth needs us. Hurry, Kaela. We have to find out what is happening.”

“I know what is happening. A spirit animal frightened Caeth. Long ago, when we entered Homeland with Raessa, Ebon-nae explained to me that it will be a gift for her when she awakens from her stasis. It is not monster.”

Azzori scoffed, “That depends on what you think a monster is. You have one that enjoys torturing me.”

“Azariel is not a monster. He is a spirit animal with special talents and a strange way of showing his love for us.”

“Kaela, he is a nuisance and is lucky I have not lopped off his head.” A loud hoot from the Moon Pilot voiced his annoyance with Azzori.

“You have hurt his feelings.”

“He is fortunate that’s all I have done.” Azzori rushed Kaela through the door. “We have to get there before Caeth becomes involved with Raessa. Our daughter doesn’t need to see the fury and the violence that is coming.”

“Wow! Caeth will be proud of her father. You are learning to use contractions. I’ll try harder to remember her grammar lessons too.” The fourth Mystic of 5 grinned when her spirit animal appeared. “Azariel senses our concern for Caeth. He is coming with us.”

“Humph! He could fly to the Cave.” A raucous hoot challenged Azzori’s words.

Kaela whispered, “Moon Pilot, fly to the Cave and watch over Caeth.” Her spirit animal took flight and soared above the clouds to serve his maiden’s wishes.
